Our Story

Welcome to Sonora Performance Horses!  Since 2019, we’ve been dedicated to breeding top-quality AQHA barrel racing prospects with the speed, athleticism, and trainability to excel in competition.

Great horses start with great bloodlines, and we’ve put a lot of thought into selecting proven genetics that produce winners. But just as important as pedigree is how they’re raised. Our foals get hands-on care, proper nutrition, and plenty of room to grow and develop, setting them up for success—whether in the arena or as trusted partners.

Every horse we raise is bred with purpose. We focus on sound conformation, strong minds, and a natural drive to perform—qualities that make them not just competitors, but horses you’ll love to ride.

If you're ever in the area, stop by—the coffee pot is always on!

About the Farm

Sonora Performance Horses sits on 9.75 acres along the river in Barrière, BC, just 45 minutes north of Kamloops. Our farm provides the space, care, and environment young horses need to grow and develop properly.

Foals are raised in large, open spaces, giving them the freedom to move, play, and learn from an early age. They are handled from birth, making sure they are well-socialized, respectful, and set up for success in whatever direction their future takes them. The farm is also home to goats, chickens, barn cats, and dogs, adding to the daily rhythm of life here.

At the end of the day, we take pride in what we do. Every horse that leaves this farm is one we’ve put our hearts into, and we’re always excited to see them go on to great things.

Cool China

April 20, 2000 - April 8, 2024

China was an important part of our Journey and a horse who meant a lot to many people. She was the mother of Chicklet and Rayna (Panda) and left her mark both in the show ring and in the lives of those who worked with her.

Over the years, China helped several riders achieve big milestones. She carried Lisa to her AQHA Youth Champion and AQHA Superior Halter titles, while Randy and Shari won AQHA Grand Champion Halter awards with her. Paige also showed her in AQHA and 4-H under the guidance of Carole.

Later on in her Life, she came back home to Tracy to be a trusted trail ride partner and companion. She ran barrels with Madelaine, and was a special riding partner for Kristine.

China spent her final years on the farm, surrounded by the people who loved her most. She played a big role in our farm’s story, and she won’t ever be forgotten.
